Good Work

Spent some time today with a couple members of our team—Rod and Jason.  We were meeting to talk about how to do a better job spreading the message of grace that God’s given us via all the new cool applications on-line. We got in front of a white board and started making circles and squares and lines going every which way as we talked about all the applications that exist on line that we are already using and the ones we want to start using.  We facebook, Twitter, blog, post content on You Tube and God Tube and a have a store that sells print resources.

It’s amazing that today there are so many ways to communicate and share content where just five years ago we were stuck with a static website or nothing but email.  Things have changed a lot, and so much for the better as these technologies allow us to make new friends or find old friends.  Cool stuff. And addictive too.  I turn facebook on in the morning and leave it up all day.  Love those status updates!

So the end result of all our time together was a full whiteboard and a sense that we can do more to continue to communicate with the larger grace community.  It’s not that we aren’t doing the right things, it’s that those things tend to be a little disconnected from one another.  Twitter can feed the blog and update our facebook page if we want it to.  The blog can include links to our Twitter so that we can “micro-blog.”  We can post all sorts of information about what we’re doing and where we’re going on our facebook page.  We can let you know about new resources in the store from any one of these touch points.  It was a little dizzying, but I think in the coming days you will see the seamless movement of information across all these applications (fingers crossed).

The point isn’t to have a million facebook friends or scores of Twitter followers or countless blog readers (although we wouldn’t hate it either!) but to have opportunities to tell stories and communicate the truths of God’s grace to whoever is interested.  Sometimes I laugh a little when I think about it—we’re doing something as simple as telling the world how God’s grace can transform every area of life, from marriages, to families, to churches to organizations.  It’s not rocket surgery, it’s grace.  And yet it is, for many (me included) a hard message to “get.”  I have been trying to get my arms around it, what God’s grace really means in my life, but I still learn new stuff all the time, and expect I always will.  Nothing as bottomless as God’s grace can be figured out in a few easy lessons or a couple of articles.

So we use these applications to keep the dialog going as we walk this path together.  Nothing makes us happier than finding someone on line who is on this journey with us. Feel free to join us on fb (www.facebook.com) or follow us on Twitter (www.twitter.com) and keep coming back to the blog as it is sort of the hub of all this e-activity.  Leave a comment so we know you’re out there.  Hey, we get the stats so we know you are, but it would be cool if you wanted to say hi.

  1. So true Toben. Grace is so much more than a neat little package that begins the journey with God. It is a hard message to “get”. Resetting my default mode off of “performance” is a daily requirement. Good to hear I’ll have more avenues of communication for the pathways of grace to flow. Thanks for all you do Toben!!

  2. Hey Toben,
I think a huge way that Truefaced could get the message out is to link to the ODF Sunday morning messages.
It would be a way for the Truefaced audience to hear those truths taught through real life. John does such an amazing job of communicating to the body. Why not use those messages on your web site as another way of fleshing out the message of grace.
